Project overview

Water infrastructure projects under the Tasmania Connections package include new and extended pipelines, and new and expanding reusable water schemes. These projects will increase availability and reliability of water for agricultural producers. These benefits will contribute to delivering secure and affordable water for rural and regional Australia.

Western Australia Connections package

Project overview

The Western Australia Connections package includes a range of infrastructure projects including:

  • upgrades to increase water storage capacity
  • new water recycling systems
  • replacing existing pipelines.

These projects have improved water security for regional Australia, including farming communities.

Urannah Dam business case and approvals

Project overview

The project completed the detailed business case and progressed approvals for the proposed Urannah Dam. It included:

  • detailed design and engineering work
  • submission of environmental approvals documents (Environmental Impact Statement)
  • consideration of cultural heritage and native title.

The business case identified options to:

  • provide water security for existing agricultural users
  • stimulate irrigated agriculture
  • support new resource projects.

South Australia Connections package

Project overview

The South Australia Connections package has improved water access to primary producers. Projects included work to:

  • upgrade irrigation water delivery to infrastructure
  • create groundwater recharge areas to refill aquifer and groundwater supply.

The projects have provided better water for rural and regional Australia that is:

  • secure
  • affordable
  • reliable.

South Australia water infrastructure projects under the Connections package included:

New South Wales Connections Package

Project overview

This package delivered new and upgraded water infrastructure, including:

  • an off-stream storage dam
  • a reservoir
  • pipelines
  • a pump station
  • water storage facilities including raw water tanks.

The package has increased water security for a number of regions, for both agricultural and community use. It is helping to future proof water supplies and boost drought resilience.

Scottsdale Irrigation Scheme

Project overview

The Scottsdale Irrigation Scheme project included construction of a new dam and water distribution network to support drought resilience in north east Tasmania. The scheme includes 92 km of pipeline, a dam, pumpstation and power station. This infrastructure will supply the region with 8,600 megalitres (ML) of high-security irrigation water per season.
