The NSW Connections Package was funded by the Australian Government ($10,546,600) and the NSW Government and other partners ($21,097,454). Australian Government funding was provided through the National Water Grid Fund.

The New South Wales Connections package includes the construction and upgrade of new pipelines and water storage facilities.
Project overview
This package delivered new and upgraded water infrastructure, including:
- an off-stream storage dam
- a reservoir
- pipelines
- a pump station
- water storage facilities including raw water tanks.
The package has increased water security for a number of regions, for both agricultural and community use. It is helping to future proof water supplies and boost drought resilience.
Collectively, these benefits are contributing to delivering secure, affordable and reliable water for rural and regional Australia.
New South Wales water infrastructure projects under the Connections pathway include:
Walcha off-stream water storage
- Construction of a new 300 megalitre (ML) off-stream storage dam. This has improved water reliability to the Walcha community and agricultural users.
West Wyalong water reliability
- Construction of a new standpipe reservoir, 15 km of pipeline and a new transfer pump station. This has improved low pressure issues in the Wyalong and West Wyalong regions. The project was essential to facilitate agriculture and gold mining operations in the region and support new development.
Urbenville water supply
- Expansion of the existing Urbenville Water Treatment Plant. Raw water treatment infrastructure has been installed to improve raw water quality. The existing jetty has also be upgraded. This has improved water quality and reliability for the communities of Urbenville, Muli Muli and Woodenbong.
Collectively, these projects delivered:
- 100 jobs during construction and more than 300 ongoing jobs
- 78.6 ML annual increase in water available for productive use
- 378.6 ML per annum increased water available for urban use.
Construction of the package was completed in June 2025.
