Water Security for the Lundja Aboriginal Community

Project overview

The Water Security for the Lundja Aboriginal Community project will upgrade 1km of the Halls Creek Borefield pipe. This will improve the reliability of access to water as the pipe is the sole supply of drinking water to the Community.

The Lundja Community experiences frequent water outages from damaged network infrastructure. This means there is water insecurity within the Community. It is estimated this project will save 864 kilolitres (kL) to 4,320kL of water per year.

Water Pipework Replacement Program – Phase 1

Project overview

The Water Pipework Replacement Program – Phase 1 project will replace aged and damaged water pipework in 20 remote First Nations communities in the Goldfields, Kimberley and Pilbara regions of Western Australia. The communities face high water loss and frequent burst pipes, contributing to total water outages.

The new infrastructure will increase water quality and reliability by reducing:

Bore Pipe Upgrade Program – Phase 1

Project overview

The Improving Water Security in First Nations Communities – Bore Pipe Upgrade – Phase 1 project will deliver new bore pipes to Aboriginal communities in Western Australia.

The program will provide pipe replacements in 15 remote communities, including 10 in the Kimberley region. Another 5 communities will be added to the program after assessment of existing infrastructure assets and engagement with communities across the state.

Far West Water Treatment Plants

Project overview

This project will improve water quality and reliability in the Central Darling Shire.

The project will construct:

  • three water treatment plants near the towns of Wilcannia, Ivanhoe and White Cliffs
  • a reticulation system, drinking water reservoir and better storage reservoir in White Cliffs.

The project will provide benefits, including:

Iga Warta water security

Project overview

The Iga Warta Water Security project has provided a boost to water supply quality and security in the Iga Warta Homeland. Local water quality was improved through new water treatment. It has also provided better drought resilience through new water supply and storage. This has supported the community to invigorate tourism and businesses on the Homeland.

The project involved:

Gove Peninsula Water Supply Upgrade (Phase 1)

Project overview

The Gove Peninsula Water Supply Upgrade project will provide long term water security for Yirrkala and Gunyangara. Both communities experience significant water loss and increasing water demand.

The project will reduce water loss from the ageing water distribution system in Yirrkala by replacing 6 km of pipeline and upgrading connections.

The project will also assess the water supply to Gunyangara. This will identify options to ensure future sustainability.

Maningrida Water Supply Upgrade

Project overview

The Maningrida Water Supply Upgrade will improve the reliability of the Maningrida community’s water network. There is a high and growing demand for water in Maningrida, and the northern community is at very high risk of future water source failure without water infrastructure development.

Works in the upgrade package include:

  • a new water tank to expand storage capacity
  • construction of new pipelines to connect the new tank to the network
  • replacement of old, leaky pipes.

This project will:

Numbulwar Water Security Strategy Phase 1

Project overview

The Numbulwar Water Security Strategy is a two-phase approach to develop long term water security in the northern community of Numbulwar. Numbulwar faces extreme risk of future water source failure. The Australian and Northern Territory Governments are committed to providing reliable water supply in the community.

The phase 1 package is a set of planning works to inform future phase 2 construction works.

Phase 1 includes:
