The project is funded by the Australian Government ($5 million), and the Victorian Government through Westernport Water ($6.3 million). Australian Government funding is provided through the National Water Grid Fund.
This project will upgrade water infrastructure at 4 sites in the Bass Coast region, including installation of a water quality station at the Wimbledon Heights water tank (pictured).
Project overview
The Victorian Westernport water distribution network resilience project is a package of water infrastructure upgrades that will improve the quality and reliability of the drinking water supply. This will benefit communities in the Bass Coast region, including Phillip Island.
The current water distribution network has limited connectivity and pressure between storage zones. There are water quality issues including low chlorine residuals and elevated pH.
The project involves the installation of:
- a pressure reduction and a water quality station. This will enhance the disinfection of water received from the Victorian desalination pipeline
- 2 potable water storage tanks
- a water quality station on Phillip Island.
The project will:
- address problems with flow regulation and storage in the current system
- provide safe drinking water for the community
- support tourism in the region.
