The project is jointly funded by the Australian Government ($2.7 million) and the Cabonne Council ($2.7 million). Australian Government funding is provided through the National Water Grid Fund.

Molong Creek dam wall with water spilling over the top. A concrete path and railings lead to the edge of the dam wall. Grass and trees surround the area under a clear blue sky.

This project will improve the water supply for Molong and neighbouring towns in central-west New South Wales.

Project overview

The Molong water security pipeline project will improve the reliability of water supply for around 2,100 people in the communities of Molong, Cumnock and Yeoval in central-west New South Wales.

The water supply to these communities has leakages and experiences failures due to an ageing pipeline. The project will improve network efficiency and increase the resilience of Molong’s water supply.

The project will replace 8.8 km of pipeline between the Molong Creek Dam and the Molong Water Filtration Plant.

The new pipeline is expected to reduce water loss by up to 73 megalitres per year, which is more than 2 litres per second. It will also secure Molong’s emergency water supply from Orange, increasing drought resilience for the communities.
