23 water projects receive their share of $85.9 million in funding

Regional communities across Australia are benefiting from $85.9 million in National Water Grid funding for new water infrastructure projects. 

The 23 funded projects across Victoria, Queensland, Western Australia, South Australia and Tasmania will help safeguard water resources and protect the environment.  

The projects are being delivered under the Water Infrastructure for Sustainable and Efficient Regions (WISER) initiative. 

WISER drives more efficient water use in a sustainable way. It also ensures that the environment remains central during planning and delivery.

The various projects include:

  • upgrades to water treatment plants
  • new and/or upgraded pump stations, bores and tanks
  • new pipelines to better protect and preserve precious drinking water
  • recycled water for agriculture and irrigation
  • reduced pressure on raw water sources.

Many of these projects support Australia’s move to a circular economy through the use of:

  • recycled materials
  • renewable energy
  • reduced construction footprints.

State and local governments, along with project partners, are working with the National Water Grid to fund and deliver these projects. In total, the projects will benefit from more than $211 million in funding.

All of these projects are expected to commence construction by late 2025, with many already underway.
