Tamar Irrigation Scheme

The project will deliver pipelines and pump stations to both the east and west Tamar regions.
This project will support the deliver of more than 11,000 megalitres of high reliability irrigation water.
To the west of the Tamar River, the scheme will provide water to users between Beauty Point and Carrick, including Rosevale, Legana, Exeter, Bridgenorth and Flowery Gully. To the east, the scheme will provide water to users in the Hillwood, Karoola, Pipers Brook and Weymouth areas.
The Australian Government and Tasmanian Government are jointly funding the project with the Australian Government providing $12.5 million. Findings of the detailed business case process will inform the final cost of the project.
The Australian Government has committed an additional $100 million towards the Pipeline to Prosperity Tranche 3 Phase 1 projects in Tasmania, which includes:
- Tamar Irrigation Scheme (this project)
- Northern Midlands Irrigation Scheme
- Don Irrigation Scheme
- Sassafras Wesley Vale Irrigation Scheme
- Fingal Irrigation Scheme
Australian Government funding is provided through the National Water Grid Fund.
