Paranui Weir Preliminary Business Case Project
Location:
Estimated Cost:

The preliminary business case will assess the merits of constructing the proposed Paranui Weir, a new weir on the Dawson River with a storage capacity of 11.5GL.
If constructed, the weir would potentially support irrigation of up to 30,000 hectares of arable land improving water accessibility and reliability for communities in the Moura, Theodore, and surrounding communities. The proposed project may also help to mitigate against climate variability, where primary industry and rural communities are becoming increasingly vulnerable to extended drought conditions.
The preliminary business case will undertake an assessment of:
- options development and stakeholder engagement;
- environmental, social, and legal analysis;
- hydrologic modelling and design development; and
- economic and financial options.
The $2 million project is funded by the Australian Government.
Australian Government funding is provided through the National Water Grid Fund.
The project underway, with the preliminary business case expected to be completed in mid 2023.
