The Nyngan to Cobar Pipeline detailed business case assessed the benefits of upgrading existing pipeline and pumping infrastructure to ensure continued water security and reliability for the Cobar region.

The detailed business case investigated a range of infrastructure options and identified the preferred option as replacement of the existing pump stations at Nyngan, Hermidale and Cobar and the Nyngan to Cobar pipeline. The NSW Government has prioritised the replacement of the pump station and as a result, the project is being staged.

Stage 1 - replacement of the pump stations

Stage 1 is jointly funded by the Australian and New South Wales governments.

Stage 2- replacement of the Nyngan to Cobar Pipeline

The NSW Government is continuing relevant technical, environmental and cultural heritage investigations to progress the business case for Stage 2.

Who's involved

The detailed business case was jointly funded by the Australian Government ($1 million) and the New South Wales Government ($1.2 million).

Australian Government funding was provided through the National Water Grid Fund.

Project status

The business detailed business case was completed in September 2022.
