Macquarie / Wambuul Water Security Scheme
The detailed business case will consider the broader water needs of the lower Macquarie catchment. This will include assessing the merits of a proposed re-regulating gated weir and fishway on the Macquarie / Wambuul River.
If built, the proposed project would increase water availability providing certainty for farmers, businesses and primary industries in the Macquarie-Castlereagh, including the communities in Narromine and Warren.
The detailed business case will consider a range of options for improving water supply and consider;
- detailed design options;
- planning approvals; and
- technical, environmental and cost benefit analysis.
The $9.7 million project is funded by the Australian Government ($5.4 million) and the New South Wales Government ($4.3 million).
Australian Government funding is provided through the National Water Grid Fund.
The project is underway with the business case expected to be completed in mid 2023
