The project will deliver a new irrigation scheme and an off-stream storage dam about 45km north west of Hughenden.

The project is expected to increase the value of agricultural production in high value areas. It could allow for the irrigation of more than 10,000 hectares of farmland.

Who's involved

The Australian Government has made a commitment of $180 million towards the project, which includes $10 million for the detailed business case. Total cost of the project is still to be confirmed through detailed planning work.

Australian Government Funding source

Australian Government funding is provided through the National Water Grid Fund.

The project is currently in the planning stage. The Hughenden Irrigation Scheme Detailed Business Case is currently underway.
