Emu Swamp Dam and Pipeline
A new 12 gigalitre dam has been proposed for construction on the Severn River near Stanthorpe, as well as a 117 kilometre pipeline distribution network.
The project aims to increase water availability by up to 40 per cent in the region for productive use. It aims to increase water security and expand agricultural production in the region. The types of agriculture proposed to be supported in the region include apples, stone fruit, vegetables, herbs and grapes.
The Australian Government is committed to responsible investment in water infrastructure, based on scientific evidence and business cases that stack up economically and environmentally.
The Australian Government funding ($168.5 million) for construction of Emu Swamp Dam and Pipeline has been deferred.
Australian Government funding is provided through the National Water Grid Fund.
